Boy Next Door

By the way this story, MY STORY has been a long time coming. I hope all of the other fans enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it. And it takes me back to a time of innocence, of dreams, of something to believe in, a time when we thought we'd never grow up. Well, that time has come, I have aged, but grow up...NEVER. Growing old there's no way around it, but growing up...HA.                                         As I sit waiting one night for New Amsterdam to come on TV, I'm thinking of all sorts of things I could say about my first crush. Yes, my first crush who---which by the way he's a writer and Executive Producer of the show. So my mind starts to wander and I'm reliving my first concert all over again in my head. You know how it is if you get a thought in your head or if you're in the mood for writing' you just have to write it down right now or it could just slip away.                             Beings New Amsterdam was getting ready to come on, I didn't want to full on write, I didn't want to be distracted from the show(which by the way is one of the best shows out today). So I'm jotting little notes all over the place and on these nights of New Amaterdam, Shaun Cassidy always interacts with the fans (on Twitter, which is now X)and tweets about the show. I'm starting to get anysy about doing some writing so I tweet on Twitter W/an old photo of Shaun "Can't wait til my day off so I can work on my personal blog about #myfirstcrush(wine and @shaunpcassidy) for my website...Takin it way back..."                                                                              Low and behold Shaun replies "Boy next door". I replied back "Awwww, to us back in the 70's you were more than the BOY NEXT DOOR...buttttt, I can see clearly now"...                                                              So a little light goes off in my head, that will be the title of my blog, BOY NEXT DOOR instead of "my first crush" to me sounds much more appealing as well-Thanks Shaun.                                                              Let's take it back before my obsession with the 80's, before my obsession with Johnny Depp, before my obsession with Jani Lane of Warrant, there was another who literally stole my heart--Shaun Cassidy. It was 1977 when "The Hardy Boys" first aired. And before Shaun it was Elvis(way, way back).                                                                       OK SO---                                                                                                             "I was 10 and sick of school(already, lol)                                                     I didn't know what I wanted to do--                                                               I bought a book..."                                                                                             Remember thoughs books from the book clubs in school? Yes, all I ordered were "The Partridge Family Mysteries", so the Cassidy's came into my life at a young age. I had a little crush on David(notthing major though). I bought all the books and watched every episode of The Partridge Family. Back in thoughs days, it really was the cool thing to do.                                                                                       Moving Forward --                                                                                           Who was your first crush?                                                                               My early years growing up in the 60's, I remember the velvet pictures of JFK and Elvis hanging on our front room walls. My mom and dad owned a tavern, so I remember a lot of Elvis being on that old jukebox. One of my favorite songs was "Wooden Heart" by Elvis, no clue as to why, I just know it was. Another favorite song of mine back then was "Last Kiss" no not the Pearl Jam song, but the original. I forget who sang it, I did look up the history at one time.                              I hit my teen years and it changed somewhat, but it was still rock n roll, in any form. I just really got obsessed with music and rock n roll- so much music coming out and so, so many teen magazines-not only could we listen to the music, now we could learn so much about the artist as well. I had to buy every magazine that was put out with all these teen idols on the covers. The Hardy Boys first aired on January 30th 1977. Then I was hooked. It was Shaun Cassidy from then on.                                                                                                                    Caught in a hurricane                                                                                      Caught in a Teen Dream                                                                                  I had to watch every single episode of The Hardy Boys. Then came Shaun's music. I collected all these teen magazines, ended up cutting them up and making scrapbook after scrapbook. Every spare moment I had, I was looking at these scrapbooks over and over again and dreaming one day I'd meet Shaun Casssidy-Guess that's why they call it a Teen Dream.                                                                                        It was1978, I was going to get to see Shaun Cassidy in concert. So much excitement. Then the day finally arrives. The night happened so fast, like good times usually do. I remember talking to some of the roadies outside. The show finally started, a band named Virgin opened up the show, can't tell you anything they sang, but as far as I can remember they were good. The moment arrives and here comes Shaun singing all his hits "Da doo ron ron", "Be My Baby", "Do you believe in magic", and so much more. My seat was to the left of the stage, and when Shaun threw out roses, I caught 2 roses and OH MY GOD the girls swarmed me, after it was over I had one rose and two stems, my rose was saved, I had it cupped in my hand. I kept that rose in the freezer forever. I was such a Shaun fan, I was hooked.
